Gimp Regristry .scm scripts are being made an MS

Postby ColdDay » Fri Jul 06, 2012 4:19 pm

Howdy there,

I downloaded from gimp registry plugins the IceFire-Logo.scm the Electricity-logo.scm and the Icecube-Logo.scm files and installed them into gimp script folder and then refreshed the scripts. Now when i use them they are no longer allowing me to type in a word so the script can make this logo. So I looked again and it seems as though gimp has made these three files a MS-IceFire-Logo.scm, MS-Icecube-Logo.scm, and MS-Electricity-Logo.scm instead of before it always came up as what the file is supposed to be originally. So I am asking what do i do to get these files to come up like they used to where they work? and no longer a MS file.

I am operating on windows 7 professional 64 bit. I did download gimp for this 64 bit engine. I am using gimp 2.6

Thaks much for any help to get these files operational again :D

Sincerely,

ColdDay

I can only think that it is a 64 bit problem. I assume you used one of the Gimp 2.6.x combined 32/64 bit installation packages.

I don't have a lot of experience with Win7 - moved from XP to linux. The best I can do is a Win7 32bit (virtual machine) with Gimp 2.6.12 and those scripts are working there.

The MS-<name> is ok. If you look at the end of a file you see
"MS - Ice Fire..."
"Creates a ice-fire logo."
"Michael Schalla"
so MS actually stands for the authors name.

Do you have the scripts in your local C:\Users\<name>\.gimp-2.6\scripts folder rather than the global folder. Make sure the scripts are actually there and are not some crazy M$ link. Also I have had permissions problems when trying to manually add to 'anything' under "Program Files" so keep away from there.

Given them all a good try and so far the only thing amiss is the default font name "-*-Arial Black-*-r-*-*-24-*-*-*-p-*-*-*". Arial Black seems to have been replaced by Arial Heavy.

One thing you might want to try, Gimp will add any folder you specify for scripts. Make a new folder under C:\, be original say, C:\logos, put the scripts there.
Then in the menu, Edit -> Preferences -> Folders -> Scripts
click on the add folder icon (top left with green cross) then the browse icon (top right) locate that new folder and ok it to add to the existing list.
Might work, might not.

Howdy there,

Well I did as you said and put them in the right place as to your screen shots you gave me. And it did give me the logo area came up but still no where to type in text. It is saying Images then next to it it says empty under that it says drawables then it says next to it empty where the area where it was supposed to come up with the area to type in the text start with. So I am still stumped can you help? I did download the gimp 2.6 for the 64/32 bit system It just put gimp 2.6 under the programs file (x86). Should i download gimp 2.8 or higher? Do You think that this will fix the issues? Thanks much for the help.

OOO I forgot Also where do i install the RAR files in gimp to get them to work? Thanks for all the help =)

Hi ColdDay

Thought I had replied to this, must have clicked the wrong button...try again.

Basically, I can't understand your query

And it did give me the logo area came up but still no where to type in text. It is saying Images then next to it it says empty under that it says drawables then it says next to it empty where the area where it was supposed to come up with the area to type in the text start with.

Back to that last screenshot. If you use the menus
File -> Create -> Logos -> MS-IceCube

gives this dialog. Text goes in Text, change the font with Font etc. Are you saying that you do not get this dialog? or that you can not enter text there?

Image

Also where do i install the RAR files in gimp to get them to work?

Short answer is you don't. A 'something.rar' file is an archive similar to a zip file, except windows will not unpack it. You need an unpacker, so try 7-zip, it is free and does not come with ads/search bars or any other annoyance. Get a 64 bit installer for your system here:
http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

Once unpacked, depends on the contents as to where they go.

Howdy there,

Well that is what i am talking about that part you are pointing at where the text goes that part is not showing up after installation. That is what i wanted to know how to fix it. Why is that part not coming up so i can type in the text. Everything else is coming up except where you type in the text for this script. And it is happening to the electricity, ice-fire, & ice-cube script he made. Sorry you misunderstood.

OOO Thank you for the download for the rar files.

Hi ColdDay
A sudden thought, is the dialog popping up under a window so you can't see it or it might be off the monitor. This happened with a Gimp 2.8 test I just made. Check on the tool bar for the dialog window. Otherwise back to the answer I had prepared.

--------------
I honestly do not know why these scripts do not work on your installation.

The problem could be your 64 bit installation. What I do know is that the scripts work here on a 32 bit Gimp installation both with Gimp 2.6.12 and also Gimp 2.8.0

Going back to your first post. You could try upgrading to Gimp 2.8 and see if that makes any difference.

If you do this, first take some precautions and rename your existing
C:\Users\<your_name>\.gimp-2.6
folder to something like
C:\Users\<your_name>\.gimp-2.6xxx
This is so the new installation does not inherit any previous screw-ups and all your existing scripts, plugins, etc are saved for later use.

You can get a Gimp 2.8.0 64 bit installation from
http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html
As far as I know this is a combined 32/64 bit installer.

If you want to be a bit more adventurous you can get a Gimp 2.8.1 installation that comes with few extra plugins from Partha. This is a good version (if you like a dark theme :? )
http://www.partha.com/ see the side panel and
http://www.partha.com/downloads/Gimp-2.8.1-64bit.exe

If you go for either of the 2.8.x versions, run Gimp to make a
C:\Users\<your_name>\.gimp-2.8\scripts
folder and copy those troublesome scripts to there. Then restart Gimp.

Howdy there,

Yea on your printed screen shot where you wrote text goes here well there is no place to type in the text. The box comes up it is not off the Desktop window or at the bottom anywhere. The box where you would type in the text then you would tell it other things underneath that to get the ice fire effect. The text area where you would type in the text only is not showing up in that box to be able to do that.

Thank You for these links i will try these to see if any of these will work. If not then i will be back. :D

Yeah, very difficult to give advice on a fault when it all works fine here.

Screenshots would be helpful. Use one of these
http://www.imageno.com/
http://imgur.com/
Neither require any sign-up/log-on. Just upload an image and copy the link, then post here.

As well as that, give some details of your computer, for example there is a well-known problem with HP computers.
Give a screenshot of where you installed those scripts as well, it might help. M$ and Win7 are not very user friendly when it comes to providing file tools.
