This little tutorial will show you, how to create some neon-scanlines. The result should be something like this. |

Step 1: Create a new image, with about 500x500 pixels in size. Choose some nice background color, and a bit lighter foreground color, because we want to produce a diagonal gradient. I used this two colors: Foreground: #124b7a [red: 18, green: 75, blue: 122] Background: #1b3a68 [red: 27, green: 58, blue: 104] Now create a gradient from the top, to the bottom of the image. Compare with the image on the left. It should look similar to it. |

Step 2: Create a new transparent Layer, and name it "neon-lines" |

Step 3: On the transparent layer, we have to create some horizontal lines. To achieve that, use the rectangle selection tool and do a selection over the whole width of the image, but just 2, or 3 pixels in height. Fill the selection white. Repeat this to get more lines. Vary the height of the lines a bit. For example: Do some with 3pixels, and some with 2pixels in height. But be sure to do most of the lines with only 1pixel height, the effect of the neon lines looks better then. Hint: While holding down the <shift>-key you can do several selection at one time. Filling the selections with the foreground color is done by pressing <ctrl>+<+> |

Step 4: Right-click on the "neon-lines" layer in the layer-box, and create a layer mask. In the upcoming dialog, check "White (Full Oppacity)" and click "OK". |

Step 5: Open the tool-options dialogue, while right-clicking in the image, then select "dialogues-< tool options". After this dialogue has popped up on the screen, activate the "gradient tool" from the menubar, and select "Bi-Linear" as Gradient-style. |
