| If you're new to concepts as "bump mapping" and doing "drop shadows" read those tutorials before you proceed to this one. |
Wanna touch up your "golden girl's" homepage with some "golden text"? Here comes a Gimp tutorial on how to create shiny golden letters. |
First of all create an image with the text/logo like shown here. Further it will be our layer mask. |
This is your second image. It contains a blurred copy of the first image [Gaussian Blur (IIR) 8x8]. It should be greyscale. |
Your third image containing the gold. This one is quite simple. I rendered clouds and changed the color curves a bit. |
Now create a new white image. Do an <Image>-Filters-Light Effects-Lighting Effects.... Activate "Use Bump Mapping" and "Use Environment Mapping". Select the apropriate images. |
Here you see the light options. |
These are the material options. You've got to play with the values to get an optimal result. Unfortunately different Gimp versions show different behaviour. |
After all fiddling with the lighting you should get something like this. |
Add a layer mask and paste our first image in it. |
Add some shadow and a background. That's all! |
