Wanna touch up your interfaces etc. with cool Aqua style buttons? Here comes a tutorial which describes how to do this with Gimp. |
First, create a layer with the shape of your button (have a look at the rounded corners tutorial if you don't know how to do rounded corners). |
Create a second layer containing the texture of your button, add a layer mask and paste the previous layer into the mask. I've chosen very simple scanlines as texture but solid colors do it as well. |
Create a new layer on top with a gradient like shown here. Set its mode to 'screen'. |
Hmm, this is how it should look like. |
Activate second layer again and do an <Image>-Layers-Mask to selection. Then shrink the selection (by 2 pixels) and deselect approx. 70% of your selection like shown here (hold the Ctrl-key while selecting). |
Create a transparent layer on top (mode 'screen'), fill your selection with white, deselect and blur (Gaussian Blur(IIR) x=2, y=2). |
Write your desired text. |
Now, merge visible layers (<Image>-Layers-Merge visible layers...), add drop shadow and background. That's all! Play around with different values to achieve other effects. |
